Introduction
The Second Annual Economic Summit on Early Childhood Investment, an invitation-only event for business and finance leaders on building human capital by investing in proven strategies for the nation’s youngest children, will take place in Telluride, Colorado Sunday, September 21 – Tuesday, September 23. The Summit, co-sponsored by the Telluride Foundation and the Partnership for America’s Economic Success, is fast approaching, and registration has begun, so we wanted to take this opportunity to give you more information about the event and urge you to register as quickly as possible, to ensure that you have a spot and to accommodate your flight and hotel needs. We’re pleased to attach the agenda.
The United States faces some core challenges to its long-term fiscal health, foremost among those increasing competition on a worldwide playing field and an unsustainable fiscal outlook. How well we meet these challenges will directly affect America’s business community. The Telluride Foundation and the Partnership for America’s Success are unique in bringing forward proven strategies, policies and practices that will generate the workforce we need by helping young children grow to be successful adults – literate, numerate, job-ready and team-capable. The Summit will present the latest economic research and engage the best thinkers on strategies to enhance adult productivity and the nation’s economic success in terms of GDP and job growth.
The theme of this year’s Summit is “Making Smart Investments in a Tough Economic Climate,” and it will focus on using the information you receive at the event to make change at the federal level, and in your state/community. We already have star speakers lined up to talk about topics including new and compelling data on the economic returns to investments in children, to the role of business in conveying this message to decision makers in your community. Among them are:
In keeping with the theme of moving to action, Tuesday morning will be devoted to breakout sessions, where experts in specific fields – communications, health, financing, business organizations, etc. – will discuss how to engage key groups and move policy makers.
The summit is jointly sponsored by the Partnership for America’s Economic Success and the Telluride Foundation. The Partnership (www.PartnershipforSuccess.org) is a collaborative effort of representatives from business, policy and philanthropy to assess the economic impact of investments in children prenatal to age five. Its ultimate goal is to make the successful development of children the top economic priority of the United States. Robert Dugger serves as chairman of the advisory board, and it is managed and partially funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts. The Telluride Foundation is a community foundation whose priorities include early childhood development, immigrant integration and healthcare improvement.
Your presence at this unique and exciting event would greatly enhance our discussions of how to inform the coming debates at the state and federal levels. Please note that the Summit is for business executives, by invitation only. We hope you will join us in this truly momentous opportunity among the beautiful mountains of Telluride, and we encourage you to register as early as possible to secure your spot.
