Strokes of Genius, formerly called the Benchmark Invitational, is a charity golf tournament held July 26-27, 2013 which raises money for college scholarships for Telluride High School graduates. Now in its 20th year, Strokes of Genius has become a proud Telluride tradition and is one of the main scholarship funds for graduating seniors enabling Telluride students with both financial need and academic merit to pursue higher education. Since its inception, Strokes of Genius, has distributed over $250,000 to fund partial college scholarships for 69 Telluride High School Graduates.

In honor of the 20th year, we are celebrating the founders of the scholarship tournament: Ron & Joyce Allred, Ock & Joanie Peterson, & Jim & Shiela Wells. All will be playing in the 2013 tournament.  Come celebrate them while supporting the kids.

Scholarships are not only awarded to honor past achievements but also investments in the future. Qualities the selection committee members are looking for include intelligence, self-reliance, energy, imagination, originality and concern for the community and others. Strokes of Genius not only benefits a great cause but is also a highly social community event, not to be missed. It is the perfect opportunity for newcomers to network and meet some new friends and longtime residents to catch up with golf buddies.

STROKES OF GENIUS SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Friday, July 26

  • 5:30p.m. Cocktails followed by dinner in a private home and the Tournament Calcutta

Saturday, July 27

  • 7:00-7:30 a.m. Registration at Club House, Driving Range and Practice Facility Opens
  • 7:30 a.m . Rules and Format
  • 8:00 a.m. Shot Gun Start
  • 1:00pm Awards Luncheon immediately following golf tournament

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

FORMAT

  • Day 1 Two person scramble (choose your own partner, handicap pairing rules in effect)

RULES

  • USGA Rules will govern all play

PRIZES

  • Several $10,000 hole in one contests
  • Prizes for longest drive and closest to pin provided by local merchants
  • Trophies awarded for lowest team best ball net score
  • Permanent trophy with winner's names displayed at Telluride Golf club
  • Practice round on Friday, July 26 available at a discounted rate. Call the Pro shop at 728-2606 to book a tee time
  • Women are strongly encouraged to play
